How it took compassion away from us

Domestication,
The moment we started settling down, making families and homes. Belonging and being belonged.
We left compassion behind,
bit by bit.
Now we are stranded in our alone worlds
searching
for the last bit of compassion.
That is tucked away somewhere,
Indeed it has to be,
For we came this far, didn't we?
